Opt-Out

If you do not want the Student Health Insurance Plan, you must decline or opt-out of coverage by submitting a waiver. You may only opt-out of coverage during the following Waiver Periods:

College of Medicine

Annual (1st Year Students) - 06/25/2025 - 08/30/2025

Annual (2nd & 3rd Year Students) - 06/25/2025 - 08/01/2025

Fall/Spring (4th Year Students) - 06/25/2025 - 08/01/2025

Summer (4th Year Students) - 03/03/2026 - 06/15/2026 

Master in Physician Assistant Studies

Annual - 06/25/2025 - 08/01/2025

Fall/Spring - 06/25/2025 - 08/01/2025

College of Medicine and Master in Physician Assistant Studies:

All College of Medicine and Master in Physician Assistant Studies students are required to enroll in the student health insurance plan (SHIP). Students may opt out of SHIP by submitting proof of alternate insurance. Students who do not take action by the waiver deadline, August 1, 2025, will be enrolled in SHIP after the waiver deadline.

Alternate Health Insurance Requirements:

To qualify for a waiver of SHIP, your alternate health insurance must meet or exceed the requirements as set forth below and AHP must receive the waiver request by the waiver deadline, August 1, 2025.

  1. The health insurance must be currently active.
  2. Coverage must be ACA compliant.
  3. Coverage must provide unlimited access to doctors, specialists, hospitals and other healthcare providers in the Miami area.

If your alternate health insurance meets the above minimum requirements, acquire the following scanned documents to submit a waiver request:

  1. The front and back of your insurance member ID card.
